Hologrammatic Terrorism: image of real threat

Hologrammatic Terrorism: image of real threat

Ahmedabad: Terrorists have mastered the full potential of technology to spawn a new phenomenon called “Hologrammatic Terrorism”. Local groups of terrorists, global terrorist groups and glocal terrorist groups have been using technology to its optimum level before and after their devastating attacks to prop up nightmares among people beyond their areas of operation.

Experts from world over recently attended an international course on 'Hologrammatic Terrorism' organized by United Nations Interregional Crime and Justice Research Institute, Sapinza University and International Counter-Terrorism Academic Community in Italy to understand this phenomenon. Dr. Vijay Khare, associate professor, Department of Defence and Strategic Studies, University of Pune, was among the army and police officers from America, Asia and Europe to attend this course which lasted a week.

Through ‘Hologrammatic Terrorism’, the terrorists manage to make even a risk that doesn’t exist look a real threat. A terrorist attack leaves behind an image which the terrorists try to transfer into the minds of people through technology- broadcast media and internet- thus turning their lives into a nightmare.

Dr. Alfredo D’ Ascli Graziano, head of terrorism and security unit, Centre for Advanced Studies on Terrorism and Political Violence, Scientific Park University Campus “ Selva Dei Pini” Pomezia Italy, talked about the need to understand terror spread through ICT network. Dr. Yael Shahar, director, database, Institute for Counter-Terrorism, Israel spoke about terrorist groups’ expertise in the use of ICT technologies to launch real and
virtual attacks on their targets. Dr. Robert Friedmann, Georgia State University, USA discussed the need to understand the terrorist groups verbal and non-verbal messages in the web and media productions.

The local groups of terrorists--act in a well-defined area; global terrorist groups--operate everywhere in the world; and glocal terrorist groups--act from a strategic local place to spread global terror. They have developed expertise in disseminating through broadcast media and internet one sided information and indulging in two-sided communication when ever required.
